6 Month Check Up...

It's hard to believe that Evelyn is already 6 months old! Yesterday was her 6 month check up with the pediatrician. She weighed in at 14lbs 14 oz and has grown 2 inches and is now 26inches long. She showed off her skills by sitting up unsupported, grabbing at the doctors stethoscope, and babbling lots! He agrees that the nystagmus in her eyes has improved and was very happy that all of the test we had run with the specialists had come back with all normal results. She had 5 shots yesterday which she was not thrilled about but as always handled it like a big girl waiting until after all of them had been given to cry! A dose of Tylenol and a good nap and she was back to her happy self.

Its Official...

I am officially the neighborhood crazy cat lady, as soon as I saw this I had to have it! Even hubby who thinks i'm nuts already for feeding 5 stray cats outside had to admit that this cat was pretty cool! At least this one doesn't poop in the yard!

Nothing to Post...

It has been an incredibly slow week around here, hence why i haven't posted in a while. It rained for the entire weekend so our biggest excitement was a trip to Sullivan's Island to eat at Poe's. There really is nothing better than their fish tacos! I suppose my biggest excitement is that Evelyn can manage to sit up for a few seconds before she topples over and yesterday I managed to get her to eat some sweet potatoes! Today's poopy diaper can attest to that! Yikes!!!

On another random tangent, hubby has now decided that he may be interested in buying an airstream camper! Since I have continuously vetoed buying another boat because they are not super practical for infants he thought maybe that it would be nice to have something we could do as a family! As you all know pre baby we liked to travel and go camping post baby its defiantly not as relaxing, that's for sure. I am still on the fence about buying a cramper, but I do see his point. It would be familiar for Evelyn to stay in, less germs for me and its can go anywhere we do in the continental US (and Canada). I have always wanted to go to Niagara Falls... Anyhow we shall see how it all plays out. The only kind of RV that I will agree to is an Airstream because they are so cool looking and not so toxic and plastic like your standard camper but you defiantly pay for it. But who knows hubby may just decide that he can't live without another boat!

Visit from the grands...

I hope everyone had a good week last week. Things have been somewhat slow around here lately so not much exciting news to post about. Grandma and Grandpa came to babysit for me so I could go to work 2 mornings this week to fill in for someone else. It was kind of nice to go to work and catch up on all of the news with the girls I work with but I was definitely ready to come home to the little one. It is truly a luxury that I am able to stay home with her and not work full time! Thank you hubby!!! While Grandma and Grandpa were here we went to the pumpkin patch to take her Halloween photos and pick out our pumpkin. Grandma and grandpa gave Evelyn her most adorable costume!!! This picture is only a preview photo the rest will be posted officially on Halloween! I know, I'm a dork like that! This was the first time the grands had babysat and they swear that she behaved herself but who knows what really happened while we were gone?!

While the grands were here we also had a nice dinner out at The Mustard Seed. Yummy! Mom was shocked that we would be brave enough to take a 5 month old out to eat since you never know when you may have a meltdown but she did very well. I think it helped that we ate at 5:30 with all of the old folks! Her hour of sour tends to start around 7pm these days! Anyhow, that's about all of the excitement around here. Thanks to grandma and grandpa for baby sitting and we hope that she didn't wear you out to bad!

What a Relief...

Finally got results back from the pediatricians office today from Evelyn's MRI. Apparently our regular doctor is out of town on vacation (damn him!) so I spoke with one of the nurses in the practice. The MRI showed no abnormalities of her brain growth or her pituitary gland. The only abnormality was the space around her optic nerve was larger than normal which is to be expected since her optic nerve is smaller than it should be. I can't even begin to say what a relief that this news is! It still remains to be seen how bad her vision will be and we will still have to monitor blood work with the endocrinologist for years to come but the fact that her brain is growing as it should and that there are no visible abnormalities with its structure is all very positive!

Fall Plantings...

I finally got a chance to work out in the yard this weekend since it was actually cool enough for Evelyn to stay outside longer than 5 minutes. The 100 degree heat we have here in the summer and early fall does not agree with baby or mommy. So since the temperatures have dropped slightly I decided to rip out the weeds that were growing in my front planter and put in something with a little color.

I hope that they will survive the warm weather we continue to have since pansy's usually do better when it is cooler but we shall see. I think if they stay watered well enough that they should do ok. Other than getting the 2 flats of flowers in the ground the weekend was uneventful and quiet. I hope y'all had a great weekend!

The Longest Hour...

So yesterday was Evelyn's blood work and MRI appointment. It went much smoother that i had anticipated. Evelyn as always was a real trooper. The morning started with blood work at 8. In which the nurse doing her blood work had a real job of trying to find a vein. Babies just don't have the greatest veins for donating blood samples! After the blood draw we were allowed to give her some Pedialyte to drink so she wouldn't get dehydrated before her MRI which wasn't for a few more hours. Surprisingly she drank it right down, but then after all of the excitement she was ready for a nap. So we decided to take a drive around downtown to get her to fall asleep and that way we weren't just sitting in the hospital for 6 hours straight. I fortunately remembered that there is a Bruegger's Bagel downtown so i drove around until i found it. That bagel was truly the highlight of my day. If you have never had a bagel from there you just don't know what you are missing. Beyond yummy!!! Especially if they are warm which mine was yesterday! If there was a Brueggers closer to my house i would probably eat there every day. After the deliciousness of the bagel breakfast it was back to the hospital. Our appointment time was 11:20 which apparently means our real appointment time is 12:20 they just tell you to get you there early so they won't have to wait on you. It was a lot of downtime fortunately Evelyn slept in her stroller until the nurse came and got us. For a pediatric MRI the completely sedate your child but don't let you stay to watch. They allow you to stay while they initially gas them down but then kick you out until the procedure is over. Evelyn was all smiles for the nurses and doctor before they started and only fussed for about 5 seconds when they initially put the mask on her face. It seemed like it was only about 20 seconds before they told us she was out. It was hard to tell since her eyes were still open. Weird. The nurse then said time to go and that they would come get us in an hour. That was the longest hour ever. I can't even tell you how many times I asked hubby what time it was. I don't wear a watch and of course the hospital never puts clocks in their waiting areas. After an hour and 5 minute just before we were about to go crazy the nurse came for us. Everything had gone well and she was up and screaming and ready to eat! What a relief! After a full meal they released her to us with a whole slew of warnings about possible effects of the anesthesia.We hope to get results of the MRI and blood work back quickly. Fortunately other than being rather cranky the rest of the afternoon she seems fine today and luckily for mom and dad she slept the whole night! There is nothing like 8 hours sleep in a row!
